the flower can kill insects.
Do you know this flower?
Nepenbes distillatoria.
when an insect come across the flower the lip is closing.

Hi it looks like a nepenthes , neat plants .
Here is another one it is a butterwort (think I spelled it right ?) I got this one at Lowes , it likes shaded conditions ,moist , rain or ro. water , no Fert . Good little knat killer  Gin

I have seen the nep at a local greenhouse .. they are just too bizarre 
Seems like the butterwort would be great around the chids .. would help to reduce those darn flying fungus gnats.

I have found that sundews work better than butterwort in my circumstances.

I don't believe those are flowers but infact modified leaves. Very cool this these carnivorous plants.

Tindo beat me to it. No part of the trap moves either. Insects are attracted to nectar produced under the 'lid' of the pitcher, slip on the peristome ("lip") and fall into digestive juices inside the pitcher. I have a little Nepenthes truncata growing here next to me, and I love the little (although they get gigantic) guy.

Very cool! Though I don't have the space for a pitcher plant, I do have a sundew. I got it especially for the fungus gnats - and it works wonders!!
