Try Dendrobium unicum. They stay fairly small. Got nice brightly colored flowers that are fragrant. They grow in bright shade to moderate indirect light. Intermediate to warm, but can take some cool temperatures.

great suggestions guys! ill write them all down! thanks alot.

i grow under t12 ( 4 over a shelf) so high light is somewhat of an issue, although i am getting some light purpling on catts. so idk how much of an issue light is. but during the summer i can get them nice high light, just less in winter.

ill probably check the boards again before i leave in the AM, so if you have suggestions please dont hesitate!

im excited about tomorrow,

I was at the show today and it was outstanding. My wife and I opened the place up at 9am and did not want to leave. Believe me, you won't be dissapointed. As far as vendors go, they all pretty much have quality orchids it just depends on what you are looking to buy.

I will say this, these three vendors had absolutely outstanding quality and a constant stream of customers parting with cash...

1.) Piping Rock Orchids - Superb species and hybrid paphs and phrags. Glen Decker is a super nice guy and takes the time to answer your questions. Make sure you check out their display (maybe check it out two or three times). Unreal Paphs. In my opinion, it was the best in show.

2.) Gold Country - compact catts and specie catts. Superb. Hope they have some stuff left as their orchids were moving! I bought an intermedia var orlata. They had quite a few that were in bloom on Friday, but that was Friday...

3.) Parkside - Super Paph hybrids and species. Phrags. Top Shelf.

So somehow same vendors as in Dearborn NJ? I liked Ecuagenera... but I can not really grow cool growers. They had in Dearborn a extra tall Laelia purpurata for $25. I wish Oak hill was there.

Hi Bob,
I assume you'll get this when you get home. I hope you had a great time! I sure wish I could have gone, but it is just too far for a weekend.
I'm waiting expectantly to see what you got.

I got several plants from Waldor who had an amazing selection of big catts and dendrobiums and the biggest purple vanda I've ever seen!
They are by far my favorite and most reliable vendor for orchid purchases.

Steve from Fishings Creek had an excellent selection as well for those interested in more compact plants.
I got a cute Slc. with some nice flare tips

For phals I particularly like Stony Brook Orchids.
They seem to have not only very healthy plants but their phals have more spikes and blooms on the plant than many others. Furthermore, I like giving their plants as gifts to non-orchid friends. The way they pot them up works well in a dry home and the watering schedule is a no brainer. (It's a bit too involved to get into here.) Typically they go almost two years before a repot.

Finally, there is a vendor from Malaysia there which I do not recall previously. They have some very inexpensive species in great shape. Got a phal bellina there with two spikes and one bud!

it went great! i ended up with three plants. i brought my list of things to at least look at, and many people commented that "a real man has a list" :P haha

i think i saw that same vanda, eyebabe, it was huge!

they had alot of phals there, i was tempted, but i can get phals at OS meetings and such, so i though id rather get other things today. its weird though, its hard for me to get myself to buy phals, but i love them! haha

ill make a thread with pics and my haul and stuff, but here is my wimpy list of three

all in bud
$25-paph fairrieanum 'green giant' x hsinying citron '1309'- cant remember vendor :\ but its a multifloral with two buds
$15- masdevallia angel tang- with one bud from parkside
$12- sedirea japonica ( nochikurami-shima)- with tiny buds but the spike is still growing. got it from seed engei, a japanese vendor.
