Ross, I just recieved my shipment from Andy's. I just love the quality of plants that I get from him. Here is my short list of miniatures

Ascocentrum hendersonianium
Coelogne occultata
Dendrobium cuthbertsonii
Dendrophylax funalis
Epidendrum discolor
Masdevallia tuerckheimii
Masdevallia zahibruckneri

I am taking a big chance on the Dend. cuthbertsonii since it seems to be a bit particular. They are all outside now enjoying the buckets of rain that we are getting.

Mine hasn't bloomed at all. It came in bloom and then dropped the blooms rather quickly. Wanna trade? I wasn't too impressed by the blooms anyway. The plant is in good condition though.

Julie, as I read Andy's notes on his site (actually that is Harry, his brother that does that!) It wants cool and wet. How do you plan to grow it during winter? I am very convinced you'll do well during spring/summer/fall outdoors, but a dry environment indoors might do it in. That is why I opted to NOT get this guy. I'd really love to have it bloom for me, don't get me wrong!

As I re-read your list I realized if you can grow Masdevallia, you should do OK with D. cuthbertsonii. I think they are all cool-growers. Too cool for me at least.

Maybe another non-Dendro grower?

How could you not be impressed with Red? This guy looks so cool in pics. I just can't provide cool/wet that it wants. Warm/wet, yes, but that won't help here, I'm afraid.

It wasn't the color, but the shape I was unimpressed with. Maybe time and distance does not make the heart grow fonder in this case.

Well, I am very encouraged by all your comments. I am more worried about the heat of the summer. In the winter things get pretty cold in Iowa and our houses due to high heating costs stay rather cool. As far as keeping in moist I think I could go to s/h and that would solve the humidity problem. I will have to keep it out of my bay window as the temp. can zoom up to the mid ninety's or more on a sunny day. As for getting a masd. to bloom here is a picture of a floribunda that is going bloom happy. It has had four blooms with numerous spikes.

Actually I was thinking the same thing Tin. If Julie can grow and bloom this guy, she can do others as well.
