Thanks for keeping it relaxed. I forgot to add also you are censored on other forum... Like if I typed home depot it will tell me I can't post store names or links to stuff. IMO that is too Nazi forum for my taste lol

I am on a lot of forums and none of them are that extreme ...

Time to revive this old thread eh? I'll do the honours.

Why did I join OB?
For some reason I started to care about my eight (they were eight, but two of them were put in the same pot by someone, I bought it like that) NoID Phals again, which I had been neglecting for about two years.

I started to look for information on how to care for them properly and ended up on a very nice Swedish orchid forum. There my eyes were opened to the wonderful world of orchids in general and the Phalaenopsis genus in particular. I started to read more and more about different Phals and somehow pictures from OB would often show up in the results when I searched for a particular hybrid or species. The worse my obsession got the more I wanted to just talk with others like me (that is; obsessed and slightly crazy ) and I felt that the Swedish forum wasn't big enough for me and my obsession. Lucky for me and unlucky for you guys, I then discovered OB for real and decided to join after lurking for about two minutes and thinking about it for approximately two seconds.

So far I haven't regretted joining since not only are you friendly, tolerant, and patient with complete newbies, but you have a great sense of humor too. I feel I can be crazy lil' ol' me without anyone disapproving. Well, maybe you do, but so far I haven't noticed it.

I found solace, a sanctuary and peace of mind...

My first two Phals were foundlings in a trash outside the employee's entrance while waiting for my roomate to get off work. I was attracted to the blue and white porcelain pot and the colorful butterfly clips on the spike. There were no more blooms but it still had green large leaves and I know I can take care of it. The Hotel where my roomate worked throw away plants that have finished blooming, and they never water it after the florist delivers it to decorate the lobbies...

*that was eight years ago

I called the florist that was servicing the Hotel and took tips and instructions on how to care for the plant...
and my collection grew...as friends gave me orchids and I discovered there are a wide variety of genus, specie and hybrids from reading about it...

then I joined a Forum I found in the .net to learn more about orchids...
sadly it had some issues and agendas that I didnt like the way they treated people, their point of views...in fact I didnt like their rules...it was manipulative and very political...and they gang up on newbies and shut them up if they reason out.
In fact I was asked by the owner of the forum himself to "stand back" and stop arguing or I will be banned from the forum.
Thats when I decided to get out of that hostile environment and find somewhere else to learn about orchids...
I canvassed several forums before I found this friendly place. And decided to stay.

I can't remember if I have posted on this thread before, but...

I joined to:

b. Relieve my precious wife of my constant ranting. Mission accomplished, at least the constant part.

I joined to learn more & enjoy everyone's lovely plants!
There is a ton of great information on the board, and by far is the 2nd least aggressive one I am apart of.

A long time ago I was browsing for orchid info and found a link for a very young orchid discussion forum. It seemed really neat and a great place to exchange info. Additionally it was owned and operated by a Canadian guy (Marty). At that time there were 68 members!

After joining and actively posting, Marty allowed me to be more involved in the administration/moderation. Happily I have been able to work on some forum features which have helped enhance the content here.

Now mostly due to eveyone's input, we just keep getting better.

I joined because I bit off more than I could chew. Then I realized that I could find a ton of information right at my keyboard and monitor.
I've learned and decided, it's not as big a bite as I thought!

Well, I got a discounted orchid at the grocery store, and aside from the dead flower spike, it looked pretty much alive.

So after I got home, I had to look up how to take care of it. I found OB, and joined so I could post pictures of my orchid and find out if it was reasonably healthy.
