Default My first 'save'

Got a noid oncidium a few years ago at trader joes - one of my first orchids - it was probably the plant that kept me going in orchids as it bloomed profusely every year while other orchids either died or simply did not bloom for me

Was turning in to a nice sized plant when last spring for some unknown (to me) reason it went down hill fast.
No good roots and every part of it dying.

I was left with 3 hopefully good enough pbulbs - I put plant, pot and all in an old fish tank with damp peat and within a couple months had new growth starting.

First pic - the 3 hopefully good enough pbulbs

(the rotten looking parts have been there since the near death experience and have not gotten any worse)

Second pic - last years growth/pbulb

third pic - a spike!

This is the first orchid I have been able to 'save' once it started going downhill - and really didn't expect it to bloom this year - so am very happy!

Nice save!! I have had the same problem of an orchid inexplicably going downhill fast, despite having it for over a year. Don't know what was so wrong for it to get deadish in just a few weeks. It's wonderful that yours is going to bloom, that new bulb looks nice and plump!! What sort of blooms does it make?

thanks you guys!

I'm really happy about it

Camille, it has profuse, small, tawny pink blooms with a lovely, light fragrance - been a while since I have had a chance to smell it - so hard to think what to compare it to - maybe vanilla-y

I had this plant for a few years with no problems, so don't know what caused the slide last year - I had just repotted it, tho had done that a couple times previously with no problems ... ?
Used different bark tho - too fine maybe

Sounds like it's an Onc Sharry Baby or Twinkle or something similar. I hope you post pice when it finally blooms!
I never figured out what I did wrong with mine. But it did bounce back and bloom , which was unexpected! Then, for some reason, it didn't like moving to the Netherlands. I arrived late August, and within a few weeks it was going downhill again. It is now just a munch of naked canes sitting in water culture. At least it put out some new growths, so I still have hope.

Is bigger than a twinkle - both size of plant and blooms. Maybe sharry baby ? similar to that at least
Year before last when it last bloomed, I think it had 7 spikes - looked fabulous - and always been easy to grow and bloom.

Sorry about yours but new growth is good! I bet you will have it back on track soon!

I will definitely post pix when it blooms *knocks wood*

thanks everyone!

in the second pic - you can see a little growth on the right side of pbulb - I saw that before the other and assumed it to be a spike - it has a grown a little but it still quite tiny while the other has shot up ?

any opinions on this - not sure if its trying to be a spike or what lol

It could be a new growth, but hard to tell since I can't enlarge the pic. It would be awesome if it was a second spike!
