Mauro,

They are all fantastic to see growing naturally like this. The L. purpurata estriata caerulea with the veining in the petals is my favorite. I have not seen any purpuratas like this before.

Thanks for the post!

Thanks, guys! I also think that growing mounted on trees is the best way to have them healthy. The only setback is that you cannot send the trees to the orchid shows:lol: !!

Mauro, do your add some moss around the bases of these orchids or just grow them bare roots?

No moss, Pheli. Just the bare root plant mounted on the trunk.

Beautiful Mauro. Nothing beats orchids on trees in my opinion. I wanted to plant more trees in my front yard since it's the only room I have left but my wife insists we need the space for cars and visitors? go figure.

And they are always right, our wives!! As we say here, my wife's will is an order!:D

Wow, I'm envious. I like the last photo that shows the roots wrapping around that trunk. Very neat.

Two questions: What kind of trees do you have them mounted to? Just curious. And also, can't you take cut flowers to be judged? Again, just curious. Thanks for sharing with us Mauro. It's so neat to be able to say "I have a friend in Brasil who..." :)

I have them mounted on three or four different trees, one of them is the Ipê-amarelo (yellow Ipê, or Tabebuia chrysotricha), Brazil's national flower (actually, a tall tree). No, Royal, we can't take cut flowers to be judged because we don't have this kind of judgment here in Brazil, only potted flowers.:)

Mauro,
I love this post! Thanks for showing us how the big Brazilian Laelias are supposed to be grown! As soon as I buy my own place, any trees within a 10 mile radius will covered with orchids!!

Incredible! I don't think even THAT word says enough!

I live where it's only a few days or weeks from -30C and to see you growing orchids so naturally in Brazil is almost too much for my heart to take. I envy you.

Carl

These flowers are amazing, especially, pic #4.

Wow! That is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I was just looking for pictures today of L. purpurata and could not find any of the regular type. I have a bunch of C. harrisoniana x L. purpurata seedlings that I was trying to imagine what they might look like in 4-5 years. Thank you for encouraging me. I also just mounted one of the seedlings to a cypress branch that I found the other day. I know it will do well now! Thank you...

My pleasure, JennS!
