Found some cool potential orchid planters :)
I was browsing online today and stumbled across these:

They are described as luminary's or tealight candle holders, but I think they would make neat orchid planters. Not the cheapest pots to use, but sure are nice looking! I am planning on getting my mom an orchid for Christmas (bringing it with me from Florida to Alaska) and might put it in one of these

Very nice....I have found similar ceramic pots at various garden centers and retail outlets that sell plants. I use them more to hide the plastic pots when I show my chids inside. And I have seen chids planted directly in this style pot, but, of course, you have to use a larger bark material or sphag.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Ross, you better get that GH built "yesterday"!!!! You're getting testy....do you need another chid fix? What's the problem big guy.....so she likes fancy smancy pots....you don't do floofy chids  Maybe a few beers and some great nachos might chill things...call up Adam and see what he's up to....I'd be there in a heartbeat if it wasn't so far away....And, you got any fall color, yet? |

I don't have the spare cash to use anything other than basic terracotta. Besides, I'd rather have more orchids than fancy pots!!
But for a gift, these pots are very nice Now that I've got the "orchid bug," I find myself giving orchids as gifts to all my non-orchid bug friends! Haha! |

...and if you can combine nice plants with nice pots that's also a great deal 
even most of my plants are in transparent plastic pots (S/H most of them), I have some nice pots for those growing in Sphag, or which I cannot grow in S/H |

I've found some really cool "planters" at Big Lots 
They're all tea light/votive holders and as long as they have good drainage and the chids are happy, why shouldn't they be pretty...
or fancy dansy?
Two are made of soapstone and were on 50% clearance ($3 for the small one and $5 for the larger one), the blue one is a pretty large ceramic "pot" at about 5" tall and 3" across for $1.50

Another idea:
after ordering (and loving) a number of pots from Erin Pottery, I thought "why not make my own"? So I went and got some air dry clay and got to work making some pinch pots of my own
You can get as creative as you'd like 
The last one is another Big Lots find, it's actually a trinket box. I removed the top and have a lovely orchid pot...for 3 bucks!!!

Those are very nice!! I will definitely keep an eye out next time I'm at Big Lots.
I've also been thinking about buying some air-drying terracotta clay to sculpt my own pots! I took a pottery class earlier this year, so I've got the basics down. I just don't have a kiln. I want some flat-backed terracotta pots to hang on my walls outside, but haven't seen anything like that in stores. Guess I'll have to make my own!  |
