Default Terminal leaf?

I have a Phal Wedding Promenade that this past winter put up a new leaf that seemed normal at first. After a month it was starting to look like the leaf was going to be deformed. Now its open at one end and then what should be the outside edges of the leaf grow together and then straight up out of the plant. Anyone every seen anything like this? All I can think of is that with all the cloning something got a little goofed up.

I actually have a dendrobium that does the same exact thing. I have to use a scalpel or razor blade to carefully cut the leaf open otherwise the cane terminates right there and sends out a new growth. It's a pity though cause the flowers are beautiful.

I'm not sure it may be the same thing with your phal though. Is the inside of the leaf hollow?

Hi Paul,
I had a phal do that to me last year - leaf 'stuck' and I unstuck it the joined bits (it was quite small at the time) and the leaf now looks 'normal'. Try and unstick it ! good luck ! keep us posted

then maybe it's the same thing. But to be certain you should check teh crown of the plant to see if you can locate where the next leaf will emerge. If you think it's inside the hollw leaf you can cut it but be sure to treat the cut edges.

Humm...very interesting. I have never seen anything like this. I have had some very deformed looking Phal leaves at the start of growth, but they have always opened up. Are you considering trying to split it?
