Wrens in the greenhouse - Orchid Board

This spring (starting in early March) I had a pair of wrens who moved into the greenhouse to lay eggs.. they'd come in during the day when the heat vents were open, and basically get locked in at night when they closed. Occassionally I'd hear them hollering (one of my greenhouses is attached to the house) and would have to get up and "let them out" if it was a cool day. They raised 3 adorable baby wrens in the greenhouse, where they were safe, warm and dry!

Now they are bunking down in the other greenhouse, in a hanging nodosa.. I don't believe there will be anymore babies.. I think they are doing it for warmth. They get very close and holler alot if I'm in there working.. they are quite cute!

The problem I have is that it's getting time to button up the greenhouses for the winter, and I don't want to lock them in, or out.. they are sneaky getting in, and will do so if the door is even slightly open. Has anyone builts an entrance into a greenhouse for feathered friends, that remains open all winter for them? I know that sound nutty, but they are such characters, that I'd like to indulge them!

Awww, thats so cute! HOw about building a little tube like opening that stays closed most of the time. And you give them windows of oportunity? I don't know.

I have hummingbirds sometimes. Little darts with sharp pointy beaks... As much as I think they are cute, they kind of terrify me when I'm working in the greenhouse.

Hummingbirds are very good at missing things while they are flying so there is not much chance of one hitting you. I actually had a biker guy try to tell me I should kill the one I just rescued from hitting a big glass window because 'Those d@#n things will put your eye out!'. Of course I looked at him like he was deranged and went about my business.
Wrens produce many sets of babies once they begin to breed. So, I suspect the next nest is for breeding purposes.

Wrens are good guys. I believe they are seed eaters, so why not put out a feeder with niger seed and let them live and fly in peace over the winter? That's all they are asking for.
