Question Looking for Oncidium sotoanum

Hi, I'm not sure where else to ask. I've checked my local clubs and I can't find it in any online nurseries except in the UK.
Does anyone know where I can find Oncidium sotoanum for sale in the US?

(P.S. I know it had a name change from
Orchids Forum
Oncidium ornithorhynchum to oncidium sotoanum sometime around 2010 but even looking with the old name turned up nothing.)

I just contacted him and he has them in stock and is still open for business despite the insanity going on.

I've been hunting for this one for months, thank you!

Exclamation Main Street Orchids

I don't know how consistent these things are, but I thought I should share just in case. I bought an Oncidium sotoanum from Main Street after reading this thread because I've been looking for that one for a long time. I test all the plants I receive, but it also happens that it had yellow streaks and black pinpoint dots over a number of leaves. It came back positive for ORSV.

An Oeoniella polystachys that I also bought from them was clean, but that was not the main draw of the purchase.

Did you contact them about the virus?

I sent them an email yesterday night, still waiting for a reply.

They pack all the orchids in shredded newspaper without each one being individually wrapped, so I feel like I should retest the other one in a month or something. (Annoyed)

Hopefully, you won't get a problem plant!

For the future, if there is a species you're looking for and don't find online, send an email to Andy's Orchids. They only have about 20% of their species inventory on line - typically the most popular, or ones for which they have a large supply. So if you don't see what you are looking for, ask... often it can be found in that other 80%. (Andy amazingly knows exactly what he has, and even more amazingly, where!) He's not the most organized person in the world with returning emails, so be persistent... if no response, ask again.

Thumbs up Refunded

Got some good news (for me) and... meh... news for anyone else. Michael from Main Street got back to me and promptly refunded me without making me ship it back, which is the best service I got from anyone so far. He said, "Will have to refund, sorry", and I take that several ways.
  1. I happened to get his last one.
  2. He just doesn't want to deal with me anymore (people rarely virus test, and a lot of vendors don't expect to take this loss).
  3. He can't be sure if the whole grex is virused.
That's just my conjecture, take it how you may. I do see that it's no longer on his website, so he gets a 2 thumbs up from me for how he handled the situation. As for anyone else who purchased this in the past, I would take precaution and get it tested. Just my opinion.

Default Andy's

I just want to confirm to anyone else looking for this species that Andy's has them and they're relatively healthy looking.
