"not secure" ... Male
Default "not secure" ...

I don't recall seeing a message of "Not secure" in OB's address line/box (the web search window might be another way of referring to it) at the top of the window just below the tab.

Not the savviest computer person, I freely admit. Any ideas on how to fix that? (I'm on a PC laptop if that matters.)

I have a "not secure" icon for this site. If I click on the icon, it gives more information. The site does not support encryption; information submitted to the site could be seen by others while in transit.

I don't conduct business here, and my interest in orchids is no secret from the world, so I don't worry about it.

Wow, I just noticed that for the first time -- wait a minute, now, isn't that funny, as I'm typing my reply, it went away. I'm sure I've never seen it before. I have no idea what it means.

eta: And as soon as I posted my reply, the "not secure" came back, but it went away when I went in just now to edit my post.

I'm pretty sure that was there as long as I have been a member. Like fishmom, I don't do anything here that warrants concern.

And is that still part of the address bar or is it called something else?

AnonYMouse, you've got me wondering now. Maybe it has been there for a long time and I just haven't noticed it. I don't frequently look at the top of my screen toward the address bar, but I'm watching it now because of this thread, lol. What I find really strange is I've gone all over the board this morning, just to test it out, and the one and only place I see the words "not secure" show up there is when I go to this thread right here. I've not been able to find it any other thread or page of the board.

I'm not worried about it, either, though I am puzzled and wish there was an explanation for the mystery.

P.S. In my case, I'm on a desktop PC, and it shows up not in what I would call the address bar but in what I guess is maybe called the tab bar just underneath it.

It's been there for years. Virus protection on everyone's computers has gotten more proactive and better as years have gone by. If you now see, and didn't before, or didn't notice, likely you hadn't purchased virus/firewall protection, and now you see the "not secure" because... well, technology protects more efficiently than it did a decade ago.

One bite of food for thought... don't use a password here to log in that is similar to ones you use for banking, purchases on a card, etc.
