Oncidium Roots
Default Oncidium Roots

Hi everyone,
about 4 months ago I purchased my first oncidium on clearance. The pseudobulbs where wrinkled, they had yellow leaves and it was a massive massive plant in a pot. After researching quite a bit I divided the plant cut dead roots and ended up with two orchids. My poor babies had very little roots almost none. However, they have since shot up new growth and SOOOOO many roots. The question is: is it normal to have a lot of roots growing above the medium? I attached pictures.

Yes, that's perfectly normal, and it looks like it is doing great. Remember that Oncidiums like to always be a little moist. Don't let it dry out completely. If the new leaves come out wrinkled, that means it is not getting enough water. But it looks like you are doing a good job.
