Why are Miltoniopsis (Pansey Orchid) not popular Female
Default

[QUOTE=chantrelle;871391]I’m just a beginner and got my second Miltoniopsis today, at the Montreal orchid expo, but I’ve been reading a lot about Miltoniopsis since I like them so much.

Would it be possible it had to much light ? From what I’ve read they like a little bit more light than Phal. for sure less than Cattleya. But as I said, this is from reading not experience, the one I bought last year is spiking right now, so no experience at all.

Do you know the name of the hybride on your picture ? It is very beautifull [COLOR="Silver"]

Chantrelle,
Thank you for you reply...I am not sure of the name of my Miltoniopsis. Only what is on the tag which says: Milt. Breathless "Hilo Galaxy" JC/AOS which doesn't say much to me...

My house is cool (living in New Hampshire) and I keep track of the soil moisture. So, I must be doing something right! Now, I want more and more Miltoniopsis...
This is all some really interesting stuff! I have a Miltionopsis Newton Falls and though I haven't had it for very long it seems to be absolutely thriving. It has had 7 flowers for a few weeks now and is still forming new buds. The plant itself looks to be in excellent condition.

Interestingly, like many others on this thread who seem to be growing miltionopsis succesfully, we have a mild coastal climate and cool indoor temperatures. I used to think we had low humidity but since buying a hygrometer I discovered I was very wrong (usually ranges from 60-80% indoors unless it's really cold outside) and I do also keep mine in a south facing window - covered with a white half-transparent cloth around noon, when full sun hits it, in summer. The medium is coco coir mixed with bark. I mist the top of the soil every day/other day as needed, it dries out very quickly. Perhaps it's relevant that during warmer days we have a cool draft in our home due to two opposing sliding walls which are open all day pretty much whenever the temperature exceeds 20 degrees (68 F).

Default basic information about Miltoniopsis hybrids

these Plants need a temperature Day 18-24 C
night 10-16 C because of there parents
the hybrids are made of M.vexillaria ,M.roezlii and M.phalaenopsis 3 species from Colombia
M.vexillaria grows at a altitude between 2000-2800 meters
that means very cold
the others a little lower ...warmer
from M.vexillaria there are or were 80 different varieties
some dont exist anymore
