Default Lockhartia bennettii

This orchid specie is endemic to the Peruvian amazon, I also posted some years ago the yellow species: Lockhartia lunifera and Lockhartia biserra. What attracted me to this orchid plant are the interesting braided leaves, collectors grow it just for its foliage. I provide it with temperatures in intermediate to warm conditions in the east facing bathroom window that provides it high light in the morning. The tiny (2cm) white flowers are cute it is also long lasting. This orchid plant requires consistent water in the warmer months and in winter, I give it a slight dry out between watering. It is mounted as I received it from Ecuagenera and I didn’t dare pry the tiny roots out of the wood. Fertilizer is weekly weakly with Algoflash alternating with seaweed mix. I stopped the humidifiers because New York this time of year is starting to be very humid.... the window slightly ajar gives ample air circulation which is crucial to its culture.

So impressive for such a tiny bloom.Wish I had better luck with this species as I do with my Gold Speck. Mine also came from Ecuagenera, mounted but GS is in a 4'' pot and doing well.Something different and fun to grow.

Default In bloom once again

I just noticed the flowers on both braids today. But I think it opened its blooms last week. I also noticed two new plants sprouted.

I have one plant of this genus, Lokhartia serra. I did not know anything about it but it appealed to me because of the braided leaves. My plant has shorter stalks. These plants and flowers are beautiful Bud.

Great! We just had our OS auction on Sat. but this was not in the mix but a fave of mine. Always looking for the unusual as long as it meets my meager conditions.

Very cool-looking plant! And the white and orange combination is great.
