Default Oncidium...(should be called)..."Scarecrow" ;-)

I bought this Onc. Golden Gamine "White Night" a couple of years ago at a local flower shop. Wasn't until a few days after it was home that I noticed the scarecrow looking "faces" on the blooms.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever preserved a bloom in an acrylic cube? I assume craft stores have the ingredients and it would be an interesting way to show people what the blooms look like.

Nice!

I love the scarecrow face!
I'm also interested to know about the acrylic cubes. Hope someone knows about, poor has done this!

Thanks Sonya, I'm glad to know the scarecrow face wasn't just my imagination! I assume as long as no oxygen reaches the bloom, it would be preserved. (maybe).

I can see it!

I know people use the two part epoxy resin to preserve insects and encapsulate all sorts of things.
You could try it.

Maybe you could do something involving glycerin beforehand.
That's what I use to preserve branches and foliage for flower arranging.
Keeps them looking freshly picked for years.
Some things don't react well though. Tried it on this lovely section of woody vine I had.
The stem turned black and the leaves fell off.

Thanks Ordphien, I am going to look into this. I know part of the beauty of flowers is that they are transient, ephemeral, but still would like to have some "scarecrow" bloom "paperweights"

Actually the "face" reminds me more of the mask from the "Scream" films. heh

Paul- SCARY! (but I see your point The variations between the same hybrids are interesting, I've seen pics of bloom patterns of "white night" online that come close to this, but not close enough.
