Unhappy Tolumnia help.

I have a Tolumnia Orchidom Stun Gun. I had it in a net pot when I bought it but I transplanted it to a small basket. But after a whilen the plant began to die out and didn't do well as it did before. So I repotted it again one piece into a plastic pot and the other into a clay pot but they both have lava rock in the bottom and a layer of orchidata on top of the rocks. Then I shredded some treefern and puut it around the plant as I repotted it. I secured it with a pot clip and placed some live spanish moss on top of the media. Any recommendations or opinions.

I would imagine your media is staying way too wet for a Tolumnia. The roots like to be watered then dry. I grow mine in small clay pots with plain leca and water about every other day. They sit on a south window sill with decent air movement in the winter and outside during the summer. They are all spiking or blooming now.

When I was still growing Tolus I planted them in net pots filled with large grade horticultural charcoal and nothing else. They got watered every couple of days. I think the key is very bright light, plenty of airflow to the roots & a coarse fast draining media that does not retain a lot of water.

They also need very clean water. Very clean. Any dissolved solids stay behind when the water evaporates.

Sorry for the long wait, been stuck in school away from my orchids. School is evil!!!

I just repotted it but it dries out quickly which I know its what it needs. But I will let it grow a bit to draw any conclusions but I will take the water thing to consideration.

I've had a Tolumnia for a couple of years now. It's potted in charcoal in a clay pot and has done well. I spray it with distilled water most days and water it weekly. It has bloomed every year is spiking now.
