Default Broken ps.bulb

The winds have been fierce today in South Florida. I woke up this morning and 2 orchids down from the top shelf, a huge Catt and Oncidium Sweet Sugar. No problem...I picked them up, put the Hydroton back in the Catt. pot, the Onc. is in coir mix and nothing terribly disturbed. I put them back on the shelves and 20 minutes later, the Sweet Sugar went flying....again ...2 broken leaves which I put some Physon 20 and cinnamon on and upon further inspection, noticed one of the ps.bulbs was cut. I treated that the same way as the leaves.

Question: is the ps.bulb ruined? Should I expect that it will die now?

I went to WalMart and bought 2 boxes of bungee cords, came home and strapped about 20 plus orchids to the top shelves. Lesson learned. The winds are still brutal but I'm prepared tonight.

Yes! I know what strong winds can do to your poor orchids, Its sad.
I've had the very same thing happen to mine. For me, They did heal over - send up newer bulbs, but within time they did die off. The new bulbs sent out roots quicker then normal. Some orchids really know what to do when under stress. I hope it goes for the same for you.
Good luck & GREAT idea on that bungee deal, ha ha LIKE that one!!

Thanks for your response Lagoon. I feel a little more optimistic now. I have a new, well on its way ps.bulb growing from this broken one and I'm just hoping it doesn't stall. I have this 'thing' about anything that's broken. Once something breaks, it feels ruined to me and I'm sought of feeling that with my poor Onc. now.

Before I went to WalMart today, I stopped by my local orchid supply store (needed Nutricote and more pots) and it was the owner who told me about the bungee cords. She was surprised I didn't know already. She said, "You're kidding, you've never heard of this? Everybody uses them."........ok, so now I know!
