Question really new plant questions=>Oncidium Sweet Ears "The Orchid Works"

Hi Everyone!

I got my hands on a plant at a big box store for $5 that turned out to have a name tag inside. It's an Oncidium Sweet Ears "The Orchid Works." I've done an internet search on the particular culture for this plant and can find only 6 web entries and two photos of the blooms. Apparently it's a really new plant?

Anyhow, the poor thing is in sphagnum moss (ugh) so I have to pull it apart tonight and repot it. I'm guessing I have to follow general Oncidium care guidelines?

I have never tried an Oncidium but the Odontobrassia is doing so well I figured what the heck, it's only $5. Would the Oncidium like the conditions under which the Odontobrassia grow?

Any other tips or hints?

Thanks in advance!

If you leave off the cultivar name - 'the Orchid Works' - you should get more results.

Yes, general Oncidium care should be appropriate.

Thanks, Sonya! I'm finding a lot of Pacific Gold and other variants of the Sweet Ears. Should I assume that the cultivation requirements are the same for those as for mine?

I pulled it out of the pot and was astonished to find most of the roots okay. The moss was a sloppy mess. I guess I got it at just the right time. One of the pbulbs has an open wound that might have rot set in but I'm not sure so I left it for the time being.

Fingers crossed! It does have a new pbulb forming so perhaps I managed to land another awesome deal. Beginners luck is a grand thing!

My Sherry Baby does great in its tightly packed moss for some reason. Roots love it! In 6 months I've got 5 pbulbs.
