Default Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos'

Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' FCC/AOS (Butterfly x Papilio)
This is a mericlone of an awarded plant, also known as the 'butterfly orchid'. This has large flowers that bloom on tall spikes (3 ft.) in succession with each flower lasting about one month, with a 2 to 4 week wait between flowerings on the same spike. I read some threads of the other members’ plants have been known to flower 10+ years on the same spike! This is a great orchid!
It’s a long wait for the three spikes to open its blooms. I had to restrain myself from overwatering. I filled a saucer with water serving as a humidity tray for the pot and if the water dried up, it’s time for me to water the plant….

Great psychopsis Bud! I myself have a clone of the albino version of Psych. Butterfly. I've wondered if you could make an intergeneric hybrid with Psychopsis and Oncidium. If there was, I shall call it Psychcidium and it shall be mine and it shall be my Psychcidium (finding nemo) .

Nice! I have one in spike right now, so you've given me quite a bit to look forward to ;-) The 'not overwatering' bit is surprisingly difficult.

Very nice! I've always wanted one of these but have not gotten one because I understand they are fairly warm growing. My growing area is cool in winter.

Love it. I have a mariposa which I love. Hasn't got big enough to bloom yet but thanks for the tip about the water.

A few years back, I bought a bunch of the 'Hildos' clone to resell. Somewhere along the way I lost one, so just wrote it off.

About 9 months ago, I discovered that it had fallen out of its 3" pot, off the back of the bench, and into a 6.5" S/H pot that had been formerly occupied.

It rooted itself, has several new growths, and is currently blooming for the first time.

Mine was not blooming because I was not giving it enough water. I have mine sitting in a saucer of water. Yes, IN the water. Since then it has been blooming quite regularly. You may actually want to start watering more.
