Gorgeous plant! I can't decide which version of it I like better. I think it's nice to see some variation in blooms from year to year. This keeps it exciting.

I've seen & experienced this. I had the clone Rouge 'California Plum' & it was completely crimson but didn't change color as yours yet a clone of another I can't think of the name, which also flowered crimson, flowered as your 1st pic every other year. I am interested in members theories also as I couldn't find a positive one.

but these two color types are coming from the same plant, same year. right now!
Maybe it's just confused or the temperature is higher than what they like?? don't know, but I thought it was very strange in a good way.

Same plant, same time?

NOT the same plant, 2 plants in one pot. Look very carefully and let us know.

Light and temperature difference can make this much differend in color intensity, but not in one pot.

At least both colors are absolutely gorgeous. Very well grown plant(s) too.

I was going to suggest the same as PaphMadMan, such a huge amount of variation seems strange. I think I like the first pic better, I like the milts better when there's a lot of red!

My first thought was two plants. Except the blooms are so similar except less red on the lower petal. I have the Milt. Rouge 'California Plum' and also the cultivar 'Burgandy Blush' and their blooms remained consistent. But I wonder if your first buds were well developed or already in bloom from where you bought it under cooler conditions which often produces more colour and now this second bloom developed under warmer/different conditions. It does seem like a big change tho.

I just checked the pot and there's one leafless pb from which four pbs have grown, and each of these have 3-4 spikes, hence such a big flower show in 4 inch pot.
Silken- You are right, this one was in almost full bloom with one or two spikes with unopen buds.
It is funny because the same pb that has this pale bloom has another spike that bears much darker flowers.
I guess it's probably the higher temperature in my condition like you suggest.

My yellow one opened up almost all flowers nicely except for two smallish spikes whose buds turned brown and dried up. The whole bloom on that yellow variety is now drying up. It is the shortest lasting of all the miltoniopsis, but it was very pretty.

Now since my other thread got no attention, all the miltoniopsis growers, do the leaves normally turn brown and die out after blooms are gone??

Also, these plants are completely pot bound, but I'm not sure if this is the right time to repot as the summer heat will stress the plant enough?

I didn't see another post?? From my experience, not all leaves on a recently bloomed pseudbulb should turn brown right away. Sometimes the short outer leaves or one or two leaves will die off, but for the most part, they don't die off that fast. They should be re-potted when the new growths are putting out roots and are maybe half grown. They like to be quite pot bound but really hate stale media and should be re-potted every year. I am trying some in clay pots which would keep the roots cooler in damp and some, I set the plastic pot in a clay pot. This might help with heat stress. You could wait till fall to re-pot if you get that much heat. These don't like temps much over 85F but if they can cool down over night it helps.

I don't think the leaves should brown right away on Milts. After flowering, the leaves on my Milt are still green on last year's bulbs. It is spiking now, 5 spikes! I am anticipating with glee needless to say. Will post pics as soon as the flowers on the first spike opens.
