Wow, yours looks bigger than mine! The leaves are only about 3 inches on mine! They do seem to grow slow. 1 new leaf this year for me, a total of 3 now.

Are you going to stake that spike? That is a spike I see peeking out, isn't it?

How slow growing are they? I have one that is setting out 2 new leaves. I love the foliage patterns.

Love the mottled leaf on yours. Does only the Mendenhall have the mottled leaves? I think some are plain green. I keep intending to get one, but haven't so far. Not sure if they would like a coolish winter which is what they would get. Guess I should investigate further.

One of the parents to the hybrid Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' is the species Psychopsis papilio:

Psychopsis papilio Culture

Psychp Mendenhall 'Hildos' is not the only Psychp. with mottled leaves.

Psychopsis papilio and Psychp. sanderae both have mottled leaves.

Psychopsis papilio var. aurea lacks the brown pigments so it will not show the mottled patterns on the leaves.

Lack of adequate lighting will also reduce the amount of brown pigmentation that makes the mottled patterns.

Psychp. doesn't like cool winters. Intermediate winters are fine, but not cool or cold ones.
