Default Oncidium Jungle Monarch 'Everglades' AM-HCC/AOS

Hi

This one used to be called Colmanara and I bet that it will remain like that for a long time

It is a hybrid between Oncidium Debutante and Oncidium maculatum, two very nice orchids, by their own merit.

It is on a balcony, protected from the rain, but besides that it is outside all year without great care. It only needs a bath, from time to time because the summer here is dry and dusty.

Pretty much normal care for Oncidiinae Hybrid.

Beautiful!
My next mission is to grow Oncidiums well...I seem to work backwards as I do well with the 'chids that others have problems with and the ones that are labeled as "easy" give me a hard time!

Wouldn't Onc x Onc be Onc? It is my understanding that Colmonara is Odontoglossum x Oncidium. That is now called Odontocidium.

I used to have a Jungle Monarch but a different variety to yours. I love the colouring in yours and the plant looks very healthy.

Great piece of photography work as well. Beautiful!!!

Colmanara is Miltonia x Odontoglossum X Oncidium and that never changes (at least I never read anything that would lead me to think that being changeable).

What changes, too frequently, is the name of the species that forms the hybrid.

The above, now called, Oncidium Debutante is a cross between Oncidium fuscatum and Oncidium cariniferum.

In this case, I think the changes were, from the original names of the species that formed the hybrid:
Miltonia warscewiczii -> Oncidium fuscatum
Odontoglossum cariniferum -> Oncidium cariniferum
and Oncidium maculatum remained the same

Perhaps you think that because Colmanara Wildcat changed to Odontocidium Wildcat?
(it was because of the name Miltonia warscewiczii -> Oncidium fuscatum as well)

But, for example, there are some people that say that the names should be:
Miltonia warscewiczii -> Miltonioides warscewiczii
Odontoglossum cariniferum -> Miltonioides carinifera

So, enjoy the show and relax Things will probably change again

I do hope this message is somewhat understandable

Yes, I remember that feeling. I had it with Paphs, but then I found a girl that had a lot of them and it helped

Perhaps it is because our habits, in the beginning are more helpful in some plants than others

I am an overwaterer, but one that lets everything dries until next "heavy rain".

I try to attenuate that behaviour with the orchids that don't like that...

Do you think you have it too hot (not enough lower temperatures in winter)?

Mine gets around 40-50 F in winter.

I love the colouring, as a newbie I am sticking to the cooler growing varieties that suit our climate. I will be more adventurous when I can prove to myself that I'm not murdering myplants! Judi
