I have a Milt Echo Bay 'Midnight Tears' that had a similar problem last year, and when I asked someone more knowledgeable, they told me that I was growing it too warm, and too dry. So I put it in s/h and have it in the coolest area of my apt. So far, the leaves look better, and it's just sending up a spike now. We'll see if the flowers flatten out.

Miltonias do better with cooler temps than 60 as a whole.Bert Fields is an older cross (1965) so is not warmth tolerant.That coupled with your humidity is probably the reason for your problems with leaves & flowers not opening enough.Altho my greenhse heat is set at 58 in the winter,I grow my miltoniopsis down closer to the door where it is cooler.

I keep my miltoniopsis quite warm and I don't have this problem. These plants love high air humidity, so I vote for the low humidity problem.

Got it  For what it's worth, I have decided to retry spraying (All right, I already know it won't work) to see if there is some respit. If I can keep it alive, I'll give up on this year's bloom. Last year was awsum, so that's why I'm troubled with this temporary problem. |
