I have 2 Miltoniopsis now. I've had one for a year and just got the 2nd one. Someone mentioned a problem with fungal spotting. I've read that they should not be misted much as they can be subject to spotting on the leaves. Mine spend the winter in a heated greenhouse that goes to about 50F at night and it seemed to like that. It hasn't bloomed yet, but I am hoping that it may do something soon. My new one has 2 pseudobulbs, so not sure if it will bloom yet or if I will have to wait a year or two. I think they are just gorgeous, especially with waterfalls!

I've recently found the spot in my house that at least one Miltoniopsis seems to like. It put out a new lead growth (first growth I've ever had from one of these) a few weeks back which is growing like crazy, today I spotted a second growth near it.

I keep it on an east windowledge and seeing as I keep forgetting to water it, I keep it fairly dry. I was speaking to someone in an orchid nursary the other day who said they can be very tricky due to getting the watering right, he suggested drier was better which is what I end up doing due to neglect

Now the perhaps unusal thing which I will mention. Traditionally advise is always that you don't grow orchids on a windowledge above a radiator... well I don't have much choice and both myself and my Mum have found that Phals actually do well there (although we are coming to the conclusion that is the reason they spike late in the spring rather than in the winter). Mum has measured the temps on her window ledge and they don't actually get that high. Not tried on mine yet.

Well my Miltoniopsis is growing on a windowledge over a radiator as well... and it appears to be loving it. I know it's meant to be cool growing but it seems to like where it is. I need to get a new Min/Max Thermometer to find out what it is actually getting there (my old one went in the new greenhouse recently). We don't keep the heating that high though, max on the thermostat is about 20C.

I've had that problem. I have no idea if this one has the same problem, I took it out the pot and found such a mass of roots that I haven't dug in to the center to find out. Humidity is currently not the best (central heating), but you are right, it is normally nice and high in this country which is good for a lot of my chids.

Depending on the parentage of your hybrid Miltoniopsis, it may not be cool growing, but rather intermediate growing.

Thanks King. As it seems to like it I'm going to leave it there, even the second growth I spotted yesterday is noticably bigger today

Neither of my two Miltoniopsis are showing new growth yet, although they look healthy enough. However, I live on the prairies in Canada and winter is just over. They are kept in a heated greenhouse but at night it is still around 55F or 60F, so I am assuming growth may be slower. It is warming up to 80F on some sunny days and soon our shade cloth will go on.

I just purchased one this year in bloom......so far all I've really learned about it is that my cats like to chew on the leaves.

My milts all seem to like to be kept on the cool side. When our daughter still lived here, her cat would chew on the leaves. We bought him some wheat grass every week or so, and that took care of that problem. Milts are so pretty. I can't wait until they bloom. Carol

Well finally after reading this thread through all the way, I've come to the concusion that I am deffinantly not in the right Miltoniopsis growing climate. It gets hot and pretty dry here in Colorado in the summer and it gets even dryer in the winter. My Milts. sits in a East facing window area next to one of my Phals that loves it there. I bought the plant in bloom and hope that I can return this state in a year. It's really a very beautiful orchid and the smell is heavenly. It lives in my bathroom and hopefully the humidity in there will be enough for it. I'm still not sure whether or not it like s to be dryer or wetter. I'm kind of playing with both conditions.

Here's a picture.

I think - tho I could be wrong - many of the commercially sold pansy orchids are hybrids that likely contain miltonia, to create a pansy orchid that takes a bit more warmth.
