Default Problem with Oncidium Wild Cat

Hi

Mother-in-law had this and after it flowered, cut back the flower and repotted. But the bulbs were very shrivelled and now looks to be struggling. And some leaves turning yellow and falling off.

Feels loose in the pot. Am keeping to moist.

Does it need more time or is there no chance? It's now outside and weather warming up.

Appreciate any help.

Cheers

John

Normally I'd say this plant grows "like a weed" and you should have no problems....however it does look to be a bit neglected from either lack of water or could be the reverse - roots all rotted due to excess watering or from sitting in a tray of water? Best you can do now is keep it evenly moist (but not soaking wet) as noted - anything you can do to increase the humidity would be helpful - maybe something to stimulate new roots like superthrive?

Thanks

Have checked the roots are most are still whitish and medium was moist only.

But I have changed the medium to a courser bark and phagnum mix. Is this ok? And can I fertilise with the moss in it?

Cheers

John

Yes you can fertilize with the moss in the medium. you should be watching for signs of growth ie new roots, green tips in the existing roots, start of a new pseudobulb.

Mine did ok, but not great till I put it in pure shpag in a clay pot. It is now in a 12 inch pot with five blooming spikes, and two new ones starting. When they are happy, there is no stopping them. Good luck.
