Default My (almost) first Miltoniopsis

Bought this on a recent trip to the wholesaler's with my workmate's mum (who owns a flower shop, hence can get into wholesaler's).. this is a real beauty with 6 flower spikes and at only €10.00!

So firstly, am I correct in that this "Miltonia" (as per label) is actually a Miltoniopsis?

And secondly, could someone help me ID it? The closest I have managed is "Maui Sunset", but only one photo I have come across was identical.

And why "almost" first? Because this is actually my second of this kind, but only by a week or so.

The flower looks very similar in shape to my Miltoniopsis. Mine was also labled as Miltonia but guys here suggested it was a Miltoniopsis.

I'm no expert though so I can't be sure if that's what you've got. I also can't help on the ID either, but I can say it's a wonderful colour

lovely blooms! nice choice
I would guess it is likely a hybrid of miltoniopsis and miltonia - tho reading more about the two I have come across that the names are frequently used inter-changeably ? Mltnps are cooler growers than Mltnps.

for some reason I was felt certain that mltnps had been moved into the genus milt - but in trying to check that info appears I was wrong lol

Either way its lovely

The name confusion is simple they were all Miltonia until the powers that be decided that the pansy flowers should be renamed Miltoniopsis.

So the species are all Miltoniopsis.

The problem comes that hybrids are registered by the RHS in London and they are years behind.

So crosses of two species Miltoniopsis are Miltonia. Until next year or the year after????

Did I say simple?

However the flower is unique and easy to identify. It is Milt. Andrea West 'Wild Wild West'. I love the name almost as much as the flowers.

These plants like to be kept cool. 22-26C would be ideal
