Odontoglossum Violetta von Holm 'Bianca'
Bought this plant today. While looking up tips on caring for it I also ran across some pictures with the same name but, but, boy, what a difference in the looks. The first pic is of my plant. All the petals are the color and pattern that shows on the lip. Web pics are much different.

The one on the left is not a Odon. Violetta von Holm.
Odontoglossum Violetta von Holm = (Lemboglossum bictoniense x Odontoglossum Bic-ross (= Lemboglossum bictoniense x Rhynchostele rossii))
Lemboglossum and Rhynchostele are both considered to be Odontoglossum for the purposes of registration (and I think both these species are called both Lemboglossum and Rhynchostele by different taxonomists). Both have a distinctive spade-shaped lip; the bictoniense in particular. This is present in the bloom on the right, but wholly absent in the bloom on the left.
Yours is, however, pretty!

Well, I guess you can't always rely on the piece of plastic stuck in the side of the pot then.

I agree, it's lovely. I'm sure every one of us has a few 'chids with missing or incorrect name tags.

Yeah, there are too many similar hybrids. I wouldn't expect to ever know what it is, even if you find one that looks just like it.
It's quite nice for one of these Odont hybrids, by my taste at least. I like the ones with the nice white swaths along with the maroon.

Try googling Odontoglossum Margaret Holm. I have one that looks somewhat similar to your mystery. I have the real Violetta von Holm 'Bianca' in spike at the moment. Maybe the 'Holm' name resulted in the mis-labelling.

There was an email address on the tag so sent them a pic asking for a possible ID. They agreed it was not an odontoglossum but a miltassia hybrid.
