Psychopsis spike just keeps on growing

Mine is in bloom from one spike the other spike is growing still and a new pseudobulb is developing. So the answer is yes. It can grow a new pseudobulb while in spike since they will be in spike for some years. Never cut the spike and the pseudobulbs look like mine a bit shlivered but nothing to worry about I usually water it every 4 days or so and it's growing strong.

I love your psychopsis Junebug! I was curious as to what you (or anyone else that grows this one) have it potted in? I know that they don't like being repotted. Did you repot yours when you got it?

Sarah mine seems to be potted in an spaghnum and perlite mix. I water it every 4 days or so and it seems to be loving it since it sent a new growth and spike.

Yes I did repot. I just sort of went with my gut on this one using about 1/2 sphag, a little sequoia bark, a little coconut husk chunks, some pearlite and small charcoal chunks. I've been watering just before the medium gets completely dry. It was delivered and repotted on July 3, and the spike has grown about 6" since then and just produced it's 10th bud sheath.

Cool! Thanks guys! I was bad, I just ordered one from ebay. I can't help it, they look so neat! I ordered the same one as you June. It seems like they grow well in a wide variety of mixes. I like to repot everything as soon as I get it so it's good to know that they seem to take it well. I'm really nervous about this one!

Good for you! Sometimes we gotta do (eBay) what we gotta do. Mine was in spike when it arrived but the potting media was mostly dryed-out decomposing bark. It looked yucky. The root system was pretty much gone so I'm hoping for some new pseudo and root development. My plant must be relying on it's pseudo reserve for the developing spike. Other EB members have said it can still produce new pseudos while in spike so I'm and

I was looking through the feedback on the place I bought it from on ebay. I think I bought mine from the same place you got yours. When I get mine and repot I'll let you know how the root system is. I just know I'm getting tired of nursing orchids back to health. It seems like I've been having bad luck with every orchid I've purchased lately!

I ordered the same Phsyc. 'Hildos' from Hausermans in Jan. of this year and had to wait until March before it could be shipped .It arrived in spike in a 4" pot in good shape and is on it's third bloom now and I have a second spike in bud at the present time.I'm still not sure about repotting this one.

Yes they will produce new psuedos while in spike mine has 2 spikes but watch the water in new psuedos if it gets cold it will black spot and rot the new growth

This is going to be a conversation piece when it blooms. The flowers on these are fantastic.

I killed mine last winter and am tempted to give it another go. June, didn't you post a thread a long while back about another one you had that you saved from near death? How is that one doing?

EDIT: I just noticed this is an old thread from last year. June, is this the same plant that you struggled with but ended up, saving?
