Default Oncidium Parquet ‘Uptown Girl’

I have got this plant in a package of seedlings in the beginning of COVID lockdown. This one was the most likely to be lost out of all package. Just three leaves, tiny plant and I had little to none experience. I think that is why it took so long for this plant to start growing. I have now one bulb that finally decided that it is comfortable enough( or uncomfortable enough) to give me a spike and a bloom.

I am so grateful to this plant that it did not give up on me and endured three repottings until we both figured out which media is a suitable one in my environment. And it is a nice success story during Covid. Still saying goodby to those gloomy times with nice blooms.

That is a beautiful flower, thanks for showing it to us. And it seems like you and I both fell into the hobby close to the same time.

Now in full bloom.

All flowers opened within 2-3 days. That is the most synchronized opening of oncidiums I have seen so far.

No, there is no fragrance. Color has changed significantly from yellow to a very nice white. Just as can be found on pictures online.

It's a complex hybrid. Likely there's some pink in some of the ancestors. Where there's yelllow and pink together in the ancestry, one of the outcomes can be, indeed, white (which taks a few days to develop, the pink pigment taking a little longer to emerge than the yellow) I can't be certain in the Oncidium tribe, but in the Paph world there's Armeni White which is Paph armeniacum (intense chrome yellow) and Paph delenatii (pink) and it has similar behavior, startitg out as pale yellow and ending up pure white in a few days after opeining.

Thank you! I really appreciate this information! It is interesting to notice something and after that to get an explanation or an idea of why something in the orchid world may happen in a particular way.
