Several clones of Lava Burst have been named. Same with Twinkle and Gold Dust. They are small enough I'm going to try to collect them.

Well, maybe it's another selection of Hwra? It sure doesn't behave like the Hwra Lava Bursts (two from different vendors) that I'm killing...I swear I couldn't kill the first one and my house humidity was lower and I used much higher light on the poor thing (and it still thrived for years).
Maybe this is a random Lava Burst I photographed...let me see when I took this photo...and not the plant I'm actually interested in? I dunno...I feel crazy now 2006, it *could* be the plant or it could not.
Ok, well thanks folks...I dunno..but thank you for your id efforts. I kinda miss the days when we wrote on the back of the photograph *lol*.

Not all plants of a cross will always behave the same. Some crosses/clones will be more resilient or forgiving than others.

Howeara Lava Burst seems to be a rather difficult plant, I have killed a couple (they seem determined to die) and have read a lot of similar stories online. If you think about it, there are not many people posting photos of large, mature plants covered in flowers!

So true and like a comedy of errors, sometimes stupid things work. I mean look at all the youtube gardening videos that recommend putting an egg in the hole as you're planting something (yes there is a nitrogen source..but chances are a raccoon or another pest will just excavate your plant).
Well, I'm looking forward to our local orchid show tonight, first in 2-3 years due to Covid. Maybe I can find something that I think won't commit suicide if I bring it home. I am unlikely to pick up a Lava Burst...but then if a local grower is succeeding with it..hmmm?

Show and Sale was very disappointing...small, only one vendor (a Paph specialist and I don't grow paphs). I was so disappointed that I had to order from Hausermann this morning to overcome my disappointment.

That does sounds very disappointing, and I think you found the perfect remedy! So, what did you order?

Galeopetalum Starburst 'Parkside' - New Genera/type for me.
Dendrobium Green Lantern 'Red Carpet' - Looked covetingly at this for a couple years.
Dendrobium (bracteosum x tanii) - I've had one previously, liked it for several years, then killed it with neglect (watering)
Tolumia Jarak Firm Super Brown - I have killed several mounted Tolumnias, but this one is potted, maybe I will have better luck?

I would love dendrobium cuthbersonii or other similar NZ plants, but I am too hot and dry for them to make it through summer easily. Plus it's awfully easy to miss watering them enough in the summer. I've tried a couple times
