What triggers blooming in Oncidiums? Male
Default What triggers blooming in Oncidiums?

My Oncidium has been blooming around this time of the year but this year it didn't bloomed from the older pbulb.
In the meanwhile it had a new growth still going on.
When it bloomed in previous years it was outside, with hot days and more or less cool nights (around 18ºC/64F) with bright indirect light.

This year it stayed inside with a constant warm temp and light reduced by 50%.
As soon as I noticed it was not blooming I've put it outside and now has a spike growing from this years growth. I'm not sure what triggered blooming as both conditions (light and cool nights) were changed.

What do you think?

Yes. (could have been both, or either) Or just timing... correlation does not necessarily equal causation. My guess... and it is only a guess, is that a change in conditions woke it up. (When a plant encounters a bit of a shock, it decides that it needs to reproduce... hence flowers)
