Default Peregrine Falcon

As most of you know, I work at a hotel... we just got a new bird that hangs around at the hotel, a Peregrine Falcon... one of my favorite birds of prey!

Well, I've been watching this nest of Ringneck Doves for about 2 weeks, and I saw the Falcon get the mother dove yesterday... eeks! So I go and get the huge pool skimmer to get the babies out of the nest, and I come up, and they are both gone... I see him chewing up a sparrow in the meantime... this thing is hungry! I mistakenly thought it was a juvenille Red Tailed Hawk, but it is clearly a Peregrine Falcon...

Here is usually what these birds of prey usually eat... Falcons eat birds, Hawks eat rodents, and Eagles eat fish and sometimes rodents... easy way to attempt to identify the bird you spot...

(will try and get pics of him today... hopefully I can get a digital camera to use)

We have a couple of nesting pairs here in Edmonton - very cool. There is a webcam on one of the nests at the University of Alberta - also cool!.

I spent 12 years working in kitchens in hotels, what do you do @ the hotel?

Dave,

I will try and find the site for the Falcon webcam... sounds interesting.

I work in Engineering (maintenance is what it should be called) at Holiday Inn Express... I also am Housekeeping Manager sometimes when there is no one else...

I haven't seen that Falcon today, it's been raining...

There are several webcam maintained by the Canadian Peregrine Foundation, check their site here http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/

Smart birds stay in during the rain......!

Sue, that's a lovely pool you have there - looks like you need someone to swim in it!
