Amaryllis Grand Diva!

Well, not that great quality of a photo, but I am sharing anyway.

This is basically lighter version of Benfica I had last year, which was almost black red.
This is still quite dark and I wish the photo showed it better.

Ten flowers all clustered together on two stalks.

looks great! I gave in a got a few bulbs on clearance. the stalks are on their way up - so i will have flowers maybe next month...

I took five old ones from my mom and have given them the cold period this winter. I plan to bring them in this weekend and hope for flowers

They don't need cold period to flower, although you can keep them cold enough ( I would say around 50, any lower, you risk rotting the bulbs) to delay flowering. Once you bring the bulb out of that cold, you can expect flowers in about two months or so depending on the varieties.

This one was bought in low "spike" over a month ago at a market.

Amaryllis will generally bloom around Spring (northern hemisphere) when they are allowed to grow on their own cycle.

For about ten years, I had the same one and all of its babies but last year, I gave all but one away. I would plant them out each spring, in full sun, and dig them out in the fall. A few were kept in pots. During the winter, I kept them in the house, usually just all tossed in a box or bag. They are pretty easy to grow and to re-bloom.
The one I kept is just sitting under a shelf under my other plants, along with some other bulbs.

I grow them in pot indoor year around.

My aunt who grew amaryllis for her entire life, had hers in a wide and shallow plastic pots.
She would leave them in the sun during the warmer months, and then cut off all the leaves and bring them indoor before the frost.
Hers bloomed around May each year. They were all older variety, Johnsonii?? the skinny petalled red with white streaks. Quite nice when so many are in bloom together.
