Amaryllis Season is back!
Default Amaryllis Season is back!

Ambiance has been growing one flower stalk and I noticed another one starting earlier this week.
It gave me three last year, but I don't complain.

It is white flower with lots of red stripes. Quite nice!

My other two bulbs are still deep in sleep.

All of these guys flowered earlier last year. oh, well.

I'll let them sleep in a little longer I guess.

Mine are starting too! I'll grab a pic later.
I wish I could remember it's name.

Nice!
I love bulbs. There's something about seeing them coming back to life after months of dormancy.
Yours have a large stalk.

White Amaryllis can be tough to ID correctly as there are a few that look awful lot like each other.

Are repotting a cymbidium back there?

what kind of Amaryllis do you have, Ryan??

I thought they only bloomed once a year around spring (the natural cycle).

My aunt had an old variety, Johonsonii, over the years, one bulb gave birth to over twenty! they all bloomed in May, and what a sight it was to see them in bloom!

How do you grow yours? Let me see if I can help.
They are not tricky at all.

Also, I don't think there should be more than one way to grow these. lol

Rosie, are you talking about the one you nearly killed by not watering one summer??

I think it may still be "recovering" from the drought damage.

Grow it large this year and next spring, there should be flowers.

My Showmaster bulb has shrunk while in dormancy and I am rather worried as it is not a common variety and I love it!

My Benfica is still sleeping, but still large and firm.
Should wake up any time now.

Thanks, Philip, but I don't currently have one. As with just about anything, there are a number of variations on the theme when it comes to growing these. I've even tried growing them outside for the summer then giving a dry dormancy or semi-dry dormancy or no real dormancy at all. Quite a few variations with regards to water and fert as well. Never any luck. And the foliage is far to boring for me to keep one as a foliage plant.

Yes it's that one, but it's had a couple of years of good growing since, and flowered really well (and grew a lot of leaves) last year.

Anyway, I'm not too concerned, going to do as you say and grow it well this year and hope it flowers again next year.

It's putting up a lot of leaves all at the same time since it came in, and seems quite healthy
