I recently started to learn playing the interesting 'erhu' instrument ---- two string instrument, and uses a bow to play it. I had never played a bow instrument before. Really enjoying the sounds from this one from the learning and practising.

Also --- just seeing if my short digital piano clip embeds properly in this thread. That's a recently recorded casual-play clip - purposely made to demonstrate to somebody from a piano forum that digital pianos can actually 'sing' (sort of) - depending on what sort of sound is being used, and features the digital piano has.

on a serious note tho, which digital converter are you using? or are you using midi str8 to the board? just curious as your recording sound nice and lush. i usually record the keys as a separate channel input into a cube nano, but they are much more thin, even after a lot of trial and error and fiddling.

I didn't know that it was owned by America before! I think it probably all goes back the the Commonwealth though, after paying the 'royalties' hehe.

Thanks for joining in with the listening of the tribute. And also for letting me know that you use a cube nano audio interface! The digital converter I'm using is inbuilt with this digital piano ..... a yamaha p-515. It has this software menu feature within it called 'midi to audio', which converts the recorded midi to a wav file. I usually just use one of two sample sets for the sounds, a yamaha cfx piano sound set, or a bosendorfer piano sound set. The QE2 tribute one has cfx sounds.

And for more muted or rounded/subdued sounds, I use the bosendorfer sound set. Thanks again tmoney for mentioning equipment that you're using. Cube nano is very nice kit!

ah, ok! man, that sounds great so whatever u r using keep it up! which daw platform do u use, if i may ask?!

the cube is good, but im not 100% on it, even after recording for 3 years with the thing. it is an absolute bear to set up, and there are clock syncing problems that are inherent in all my recordings, so using it has made collaboration quite tricky. buuut, it was very cheap, and for the price it has many more channels, dual headphone out mixers, and some nice extras. but honestly, if i has to do it over id have gone for the little purple one everyone else uses.

Thanks for asking about daw. At the moment, I've only been just making the piano tunes with the digital piano as the sound source, and as the audio converter.

yeah, it’s super fun to talk musak gear! haha, i probly wasn’t clear. which program are you recording on in your computer? ive been using protools lite, but my main collaborator now uses ableton. always curious what others are using and why. thanks! unless you record wav/mp3 in the piano itself! but then are you doing any post?

I see what you mean tmoney! At the moment, I use the digi piano to record/convert to wav. I haven't yet delved into the digi piano's internal settings to bump up the internal audio gain, and the default gain is a tad low. So I use the audacity audio software on a desktop computer to boost the levels, such as using the 'normalise' feature.

Are you using sound generation software such as pianoteq? I haven't used those yet. Will definitely give it a try in future. I haven't yet .... mainly because I have been ok with just turning on the instrument to play. Sometimes using the record feature.

I occasionally use cakewalk pro to edit midi ..... because the digital pianos these days has the string resonance effects ..... so sounds can linger for a while. So if don't wait long enough for the string resonance effects to subside, then the end of one 'piece' of music overlaps into the next different piece (during a single recording sesdion). So this is when I sometimes need to edit the midi .... to remove overlap in sounds due to lingering string resonance effects.
