do firefighters attempt to fight these fires ( if they get really bad ) or do they eventually burn out ?

At this stage, nothing can be done. You have to wait till the fire gets out of the Mts & onto flat ground. Aircraft can drop water but the water evaporates before it gets to the fire. Its all eased off atm, more flare ups have occured elsewhere. Some controls are in place.

We made it. Had some sleep last night. Fire got to 4 kms away & with a fire like this, it would cover that distance in 5 mins. The wind changed, in our favour & held the flames off.
