It really is a shame that I have more gesneriads than orchids...also a shame that I couldn't post all these pictures at once cuz they are all related. Ok officially my last post for awhile with the gezys enjoy!!!

have you tried to grow any Achimenes species ? I have a couple...very easy to grow, I think all gesneriads are easy.

Wow. Nice AV's and those on the right are amazing!!!!!!! Do they grow dry? Wet? I joined the gesneriad society in hopes of learning how to grow these, but haven't had much time to do reading.

No, it's not a shame you have more African violets err gesneriads. I'm glad you posted pictures of your beautiful plants. I have seen these plants at Various big box stores, grocery stores, etc. A very long time ago I had one or two of these plants. They never looked as good as yours pictured here. Thank you for sharing them.

Gthumbz89, I was impressed with your pretty Gesneriad photos that I did some googling and came across two societies, the Gesneriad Society and the African Violet Society of America. These Gesneriad are very easy to grow and not as expensive as orchids.

I went and bought a couple of them from Lowes Home Improvement. From pictures on the internet I have seen even more elaborate flowers and leaves. There is a potting technology that is used for African Violets, called a "self watering pot" allowing the plant to hydrate without the leaves getting wet--which these plants seem to be more susceptible to crown rot.

wow sorry haven't been online for a while...college has been brutal...Ya these are super easy to grow....and they like to be consistently moist with heavily aerated soil (50% perlite). I wick water the violets and they love it to death ; the rest I water from the bottom when they show signs of wilting. They always perk back up in a few hours when i forget to water them. Happy researching!!

No clue why there are two societies. Try the violet barn if you want some better varieties than what Home Depot can provide they have awesome stuff!!! Thanks for the compliment.

Nice! I'm just about convinced to order that purple one from violet barn, I'll need to convince my hubby that i need a larger plant shelf for the violets first though.
