Cool little cactus that I got about a month ago happily blooming under 4 LED lights that I got from First Ray's. The cacti and orchids seem to love these lights. |

Not seen this plant before, though I think I've seen flower shots of it. Not known how the plant looks.

Its actually a pretty compact little thing. I'd say the flowers are about the size of an American quarter.

And they smell worse than most Bulbos up close, but from a distance they seem to have a sweet, almost Cattleya like scent. Weird! |

Outstanding. You should grow Promenaea stapelioides with it (probably wouldn't work).

Technically not a cactus, of course, but very cool. Nice compact plant compared to some in genus Stapelia. What type of LED are you using?

Beat me to it. 
Surprising how vertical the growth is. Most members of the Stap family I have seen are sprawlers. The upright growth habit would definitely be a plus. |

You know, I've seen Prom. stapelioides and haven't purchased it for some reason. I really should get one!

I actually didn't know that these guys are not cacti!!
So now for my next questions: if they aren't cacti, then what are they? And what is about them that makes them not a cacti?  |

These are closely related to Milkweeds (a type of butterfly weed) and hoyas, Dischidias, Mandevallias, Periwinkles and dogbanes. Infact these are all in the same family. This is a realy beauty, congrats!!
