Having been in Chicago for work, away from my wife & my friends in Boston, & with dealing with the American Airlines mess on my way home no less, I felt somehow, emotionally detached when I got home, also having forced myself to focus on work & very literally avoiding the news cycle while being away, only telling my wife to finally turn off the television over the phone.
Needless to say today brought it home in no slight fashion as I live in Boston. My wife, while already having dealt with the initial shock, fear, anger of the earlier attack having only left the scene an hour beforehand, was glad to have me around as the news hit early, although she still had a heating pad around her neck the last two days from the stress, both physical & mental.
We're glad it's over, we're thankful for our safety & for those who protect it without regard to their own at times, for the families who support them in their efforts (at no small cost, I'm sure), & we're thankful for our lives. We have a great deal yet to understand about ourselves and I'm hopeful some good will come of this tragedy.
This kid (19 yo! captain of his wrestling team, volunteer with 'Big Buddies', a charity that works with children afflicted with down syndrome, his teacher's call him a great kid) has a lot to answer for.
And we gottim! Time for Lady Justice...
