Amaryllis with emerging flower scape.
Default Amaryllis with emerging flower scape.

Tow of my three Amaryllis are finally waking up for the season.
I don't do any cooling treatment or anything. I just let them grow all summer till early winter on a sunny windowsill. Then I cut off all the leaves by November or so. no water for about two month or so.
then as soon as I see something poking above the bulbs, I start watering again.

Aphrodite and Showmaster are pictured here.
I have one more Showmaster but still sleeping.

If I had a space, I would totally buy hundreds!
They just get too large and unrully during the summer.
I'm going to wrap around the leaves this year to keep them close together and see how that goes.
They might grow even taller to get more leaf surface for photosynthesis. then my plan will be a total failure. oh, well...

Please post pictures when yours bloom.
I think I have about three weeks or less before I see these flowers.

Here are two of mine in bloom. The pink one is Summertime. The red/white one is Baby Star. Baby Star as 2 baby bulbs also blooms for a total of 4 scapes. 2 spaces on the mother bulb and 1 each on the 2 baby bulbs. There was one on a baby bulb but it didn't make it.

Keep them coming!

I love Summertime, but can't decide which pink I want to have. Pink Floss, I think is the name, seem to be commonly available and it looks very similar.

The Littlestar has lots of scapes!

My Aphrodite and one of the Show Master are both pushing up second scape now. One other Show Master is still deep in sleep. hmmmm
The third scape from Dancing Queen is drying up. One of its many leaves stopped growing while all others are growing fine. makes me wonder what's going on inside that bulb.

Ok, I will take some pictures tomorrow and post.

My Papillio is in bloom now with 2 scapes, and is typically the case with smaller bulbs, only 2 flowers per scapes. I plan to grow this one into a connected set of bulbs, with more flowers per scape, because I like the flowers so much.

So many aspirations, so little time

Default progress

Showmaster started slightly later than Aphrodite, but its scapes have been growing fast. I like the red pigments of the scapes. I think some amaryllis make two scapes almost at the same time making the flower show even better while some will wait until the first scape is finished flowering before developing the second scape fully.

The first cape on my Aphrodite has popped open, which to me is that it will probably not going to lengthen much further. I read that high light cause the scape to be short. I don't find this to be true.
The first year I got this bulb, I had it on the north window. The scape stayed quite low. The second year, which was this past year, I had it by the south window and its scapes were so long I have to cut them down and enjoy as cut flowers.

This is the third time flowering under my care and it is still sitting by the south window. yet the scape is quite low again. interesting...

Default Open!

So it has been about two weeks since the last posting.
Both Aphrodite and Show Master (although I'm pretty sure it is Temptation) are open.
Aphrodite is so large spanning about 10in wide and the other one is about 8in across.

Last year, Aphrodite flowers had too much red being right against the window so I brought the pot inside two weeks ago. I think it worked because the flowers are just like two years ago, mostly whte with some red and pink here and there.

Pictures here are nothing like seeing them in person.
My favorite!!! Aphrodite is also scented.

The second bulb of 'Show Master' has finally decided to wake up this week and I see the tips of two scapes emerging together. I like this characteristic about this variety.

I've got another one open - solid RED (and I mean really RED). I'll get a picture tomorrow.
