There are some people here on the island who grow lemons outdoors year round by putting Christmas lights on them to keep them warm. They actually get lemons in the winter!

Ooo I love raspberry lily! We have three of them. I love the little berries you get in fall around here with them.

I wish I had room for lemon or orange trees inside. I'd grow them in a heartbeat! If we owned this house instead of renting I'd knock out the south wall and put a wall of windows and add a french door and then make the deck wrap around, then cover it slightly so the sun doesn't kill everything!

Yeah we dream a lot about what we would do with this if we owned it!

our roof overhangs by quite a bit so it's nice to keep things shady on the house side of our deck after about noon in summer. But on the other side the sun hits at sunrise and lasts until sunset with the taller plants, the shorter plants get sun to about 3pm. So it can bake things. I do containers, as you can see in my photos. We try cherry tomatoes which do ok, but not as good as they do in the raised beds. I've been getting into the tropicals though! Canna, elephant ears for the shady side near the garage, passion flower and others that I've mentioned. But I really wish I could overwinter some of them in the house instead of making them go dormant in the basement. There are so many different houseplants I wish I could have. I guess it's a good thing we don't get much light, I'd have every window filled and I'd be more then broke! We do have a good sized window on the west, but when that sun hits it in summer, it REALLY get hot! It's somewhat old so the heat really gets through! We have our cactus garden in it and some other plants that don't mind the heat and sun.
