Just roses - Orchid Board

Well, I looked at different threads. Did not find any on just roses. Is there anyone else that has lots of roses in their gardens? That is about all that I have. Very different ones, but would like to get any & all hints on keeping them healthy.

Any one that has mini roses? Just getting started with them. Would like to know if there is anything special with them.
Again, since I am hi-tech challenged, I will need to get my hubby to shoot some pixs. So far, I have not been sucessfull to talk him into it.

Hi Diane,

I don't have much experience with mini-roses, but I do have a ton of others in my yard and sell the flower carpet, knock out, and home run roses. There are roses everywhere here, do they grow well for you there? Something about the smell of the roses that wafts through the air is intoxicating!

Hi Diana, I have about 30 different roses in my front yard including mini's, I treat the mini's the same as the full size roses, fertilize every 3-4 months with E.B.Stone organic fertilizer's and lots of mulch.

Hi Diana,

I grow and enjoy the David Austin English roses here in my EastTennessee garden. Love the fragrant and the multitude of blooms that they provide.

I have several roses too. Though most got killed with the ice storm last winter. Lost half of my roses. Sad, but it made me appercaite the roses I have more.

I recommend the Bayer for Roses that is an All-In-One systemic treatment. It is well worth the money and you only have to treat every six or eight weeks or something like that. Give it a try...you will like it!

Dave, What are the the names of your roses. I think that I may have some of the Austin roses. I really like the dark purple/blue roses. My favorite one is Heirloom. The fragrance on that one will blow you away. Just one rose & it fills the entire house with the wonderful smell.

Lucky, I have not heard about E.B.Stone organic fertilizer. I will have to look for it. I do have lots of mulch around. Thanks.

Let me know some names of the roses you all have. I am always interested in new & different ones.

Hi all, My mother grew rose's real well, but I seem to have a blackthumb when it comes to them.

After she passed I tried to grow them with very little success. I always check out the ones I see at nurserys but always shy away because they don't have much scent, my mother's were so strong they filled the air. Which type of rose would you suggest for its scent? I think I would like to give it another try.

Hi Diane,
The Flower carpet roses are a ground cover type rose with a small bloom. They do not require as much care as the others and are resistant to black spot and powdery mildew.
The knock out roses are a double rose again bred for disease tolerance. They look like your typical rose, with a wonderful fragrance. The Home Run roses are also a disease resistant rose, the ones I have seen only have single flowers though...
I guess we are always looking for those disease resistant varieties here. The moisture in the air here really promotes those diseases, but that seems to be the only problem with growing roses here. (besides the deer)

We have a wonderful rose test garden here and most of the freeway overpasses and such are covered with roses. I guess that's why it's the City of Roses.

The E.B.Stone brand of organic fertilizers and soil treatments are sold thru Armsrong nurserys here in San Diego I don't know who would carry it in your area, but check with the larger nursery's in your area.
I grow mostly hybrid tea roses with a few floribundas, my favorites are Kings Ransom, Double Delight, Sheila's Perfume (very fragrent), and Black Majic.
