Default She's Pregnant!

Some of you may remember my posting of pictures of my Adenium obesum in early August (Desert Rose ~ Adenium obesum). Well, she's VERY pregnant and I had nothing to do with this.... honest. So Desert Rose is definitely monoecious and self-pollinating or had some friendly visitors. If these pods mature before the snow flies, maybe I'll have some plants to share with all of you.... maybe.... So let's hope for some luck.

WOW! Thats just exciting! I have three kinds and they flowered for me since spring til mid summer...they are indoors now preparing for winter dormancy. I dont know what insect pollinates it because I have yet to have my desert rose produce something such as yours.

Didn't know they go dormant! Well, I realize us northerners don't have the kind of conditions our southern friends have so their season never seems to end. I know you have to cut back on watering but I move mine inside to the greenhouse for the winter; it's still outside.

Mine stays outside until the night temps get to the low 50's then it comes in. I keep it in an upstairs room with a south window that stays about 50-60 degrees all winter. I lightly water once or twice a month. It goes back outside the end of April and that is when I do any trimming or shaping.

It does go dormant...it looses all its leaves and then grows it all back again in the spring with flowers galore...I dont know but it senses the snow outside maybe...even if its too warm inside because of the heater and winter sun is brighter than in summer(I dont know why that is)...it still loses all its leaves

Thanks, Bud. Good to know that I'm not knocking it off.... I know in the south they grow very nicely and we up here kill them with too much water at the wrong time!
