Suggestions for carnivorous plants in terrarium. Male
Default Suggestions for carnivorous plants in terrarium.

Hey guys. I'd like to get some suggestions for carnivorous plants in a terrarium. I've got about 3000 fc's at the top and range from about 0 to 1500 fc's on the bottom of the terrarium. I'd like to mount it if at all possible.

Temps between 78F and 66F (day and night) thus far.

The reason I'm asking is because I had a fungus gnat issue this year - really bad. Although the issue was in a different part of the house, I'd like to be proactive as opposed to reactive should they find their way into the terrarium. I was reactive when I had the outburst this year and it took months to almost completly eliminate the issue.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and thoughts.

Tropical Drosera (sundews) often do well in terrs and do a great job on the fungus gnat adults. I haven't had much experience with the Utricularias but some of the tropcal ones might be worth trying and they would most likely kill off some of the larva.

Mexican Pinguiculas do well for me. I have some extra pups.

What do you think of Drosera spathulata and Pinguicula primuliflora?

heard Pinguicula primuliflora is harder. I have P moctezumae and especially Ping Aphrodite that grow and multiply like weeds and are in bloom most of the time. maybe i have some extra plantlet. I just grow them in a mix of sphagnum [ground type] and coarse sand in pots sitting in a tray with distilled water, no terrarium needed. a single 23 W CFL makes them bloom.
