Default Snowy egret eating a snake!

Ok, this egret is always in my backyard. Usually eats lizards but today he got this poor snake. It took him quite a while to subdue it, but finally just swallowed it (still wriggling).

Excellent shots. Did you just happen to have your camera with you or were you outside looking for photo opps? Is this a lake?

Nice pictures, great day for the egret, bad day for the snake. Looked like a long painful, and stressful death. I feel bad for the snake.

Tindo, I felt terrible for the snake, too! I thought about trying to rescue it, but it was probably already mortally wounded. The whole incident only took about 3-4 mins. I hope the snake is not one of my little favorites. I have seen a very large ringneck like that one around the yard for years. So sad!

Joe, that egret is always in my yard and that lake is right in back. He is not too scared of me. He usually eats lizards, but he got lucky yesterday. I happened to be watching him when he pulled it from the grass in my yard. So I grabbed my camera and followed it down to the lake. I had to use zoom. He was about 50 ft away. He just hopped over to the lake to eat it. He would use the water in his attempt to kill it and then to swallow it. Kind of washed it down. Gross!
