Default The largest Dragonfly I've ever seen.

Today I spotted the biggest dragonfly I've ever seen. This giant was perched on an orange tree in my backyard and stayed around just long enough for me fetch the camera and take one picture. He was about 6 inches from the tip of his head to the tip of his tail and his wing span was probably 7" or more.

Beautiful! I love the blue eyes/head. We had so many dragonflies yesterday! Very late, but before sundown. They were all about 10ft up in the air and there was probably 100! It was awesome. Reminds me of when I was a little girl. There used to be so many more insects back then. Of course, there wouldn't be so many dragonflies if there weren't a lot of skeeters. I didn't see any of them though (thank God). I got a cute picture of a dragonfly, too. She was sleeping on a pink rosebud.

Great picture! I saw one the other day that was kelly green from the waist up. He was the nervous type and flying all around so I couldn't get a picture of him.

Be thankful we're not living in prehistoric times, when those suckers had a three-foot wingspan. You'd have to hide your dogs, and small children.
