So I was talked into buying a 2oz tube of Boston Aqua Farms Reef Epoxy for $10 yesterday.

I have a leak in my acrylic 3gal tank, and the store owner said that just putting a dab of this stuff on the leak (if I can find it) might be easier than completely emptying and drying out the tank- as I'd need to do for a silicone seal.
So I would put a patch on the outside of the tank, rather than the inside.

Was I given good advice?
Buying a little tube of silicone would be cheaper, but I was in a rush, and his reasoning seemed sound to me at the time.

If I do use this- is there anyone here that would buy the rest of the tube from me? Otherwise I bought it for a dime sized piece and have a whole tube left over.
