These creatures are so unbelievably beautiful. I have several feeders for them by my kitchen window. Every now and then I get to see one and it's always precious.

Nice pictures guys!! I've yet to take a pictures, but at least I have been lucky enough to see one when they pass through my area, Queens New York City.
Let me see now, plants that attract them
Lobelia cardinalis, Impatiens capensis
what else?
My plan, go to the local park, stake out a spot infront of a Lobelia and wait, or take a stroll through the Imaptiens, but that hasn't really worked in the past for me. I think I will try the Lobelia.

Tindo that's a great idea with the Lobelia. I looked into one of those for my yard but it wouldn't make it in my zone. I would say in the last 18 months I have probably planted as many new attractors. This winter I had my first visitor and hopefully I'll get a bunch more next winter.

Trumpet vine, a little aggressive but I believe it grows up to Zone 6. What zone is NYC?

For any of you living in "warmer parts" this is a fantastic 'creeper' (not ultra easy too grow)this definitely attracts humming birds (my mum in E.Africa has one on an outside wall of the house and humming birds are there everyday when flower open (Nov/December) - The flowers are an incredible colour turquoise green flourescent colour. Nenella, what your mum most probably has visiting the Jade Wine are Sunbirds Sunbird page there are no Hummingbirds in Africa (only in the Americas)
