Other plants: broms, tils, carnies etc?

Anyone here into other unusual or particular plants?

I have about 10-20 broms, some tils and carnies and think they go great with orchids. I also have a little collection of cacti too.

I grow mainly broms and aroids , just planted a few Cordylines and a Dracontium prancei today inbetween showers . Dracontiums are very unusual tuberous aroids from Central & South America , they have almost reptilian markings on the stems and can grow into very large plants . D.prancei gets to almost 2m and the infloresence is about 50 cms . There are a few in my gallery .

I don't think most of those would fit in a viv.. maybe in the GH..

We have a Dracula vulgaris [?] that grows from a tuber or bulb, the stems and maybe the leaves as well are patterned like tiger or lepoard skin [white/green] and it grows a huge dark purple almost black flower with a yellow 'spear' in the middle and this flower stinks to high hell like rotting dead something or other and attracts all the flies!

But I love it!

Damian , your bulb may be a Dracunculus , a real Mediteranian plant , not easy for me to grow .
I hope there are a few more Aussies on this forum , Orchids aew so widely grown here , and so many members in Orchid Societys ..

there is another who is in Western Australia but that's about it as far as I know oh and a guy in Sydney or Brisbane I think.

I only just joined my local orchid club late last year and it has been fantastic! I realised the other day I was never much into sports and I never won any other types of competitions but growing orchids I am finally winning prizes [just Best/first place novice at my local orchid club meetings which gets you a wine glass with the club logo on it and a ribbon ] oh and I won twice in the last raffle draw

Also learning new things, meeting new people, I highly recommend everyone should join one if they have one locally .
