With these words, that we are ALL created equal and these words having been manifested last night, I’m hopeful this change will permeate and lift those who were told to believe otherwise, to a higher consciousness. With this, WE all rise higher.

As you may or may not remember ...I didn't vote for Obama. But I am very proud of this country and the fact that we can vote and choose. I'm glad it's over. I believe that we are heading in a better direction, for our country and for the world. For those who voted for Obama, congratulations. For those who didn't like me, well try to get behind him anyway cause divided we are nowhere near as strong as we are united. God bless us and the world. Peace.

I see the election results through a lot of filters. To the world, the United States has finally risen above our ugly history. The change which has been spoken of for the past 21 months is upon us. The mountain top of which Dr. King spoke is at least in sight, if not actually quite yet reached. And so we are closer to being one united nation and have a bit less separation now between race, age, and belief. Thus this election has already succeeded, and Obama has already succeeded.

On a more personal note, I remember being a boy in North Carolina in about 1962 or 1963. A man in my neighborhood had a black family in his home for dinner. Within days, the local gang of white-hooded, brainless cretins burned a cross in his front yard for his violation of what they held dear. (I also remember that their leader rode a horse, and how appropriate it was that his horse was a gelding.) This was in my lifetime, and this was a memory that burned into my mind. Now I've seen a black family not just invited into my home but to reside in the White House. As a Southern boy I feel enormous pride that somehow we've managed to reach this monumental place. Our new President has a lot of work cut out for him, but just seeing him win this election says that he's completed the work which so many great men before him began, and so change is, indeed, upon us.

Those of us who live in the United States should feel blessed today for the honor of living in this country at such a historic point.

Something that puzzled my office mates at work today was the fact that someone who is just as much 'white' as they are 'black' is consistently always labelled as black in America. I think that this is a great step in the right direction, but America still has a long way to go on many fronts.

I wish Obama (and America) all the luck in the world in these next years - it will not be an easy time to be president, and he will have quite a lot of mess to clear up from day one.

Thanks for all the good wishes! I know President Obama has a lot of hard work ahead of him, but I am finally feeling more optimistic about the direction our country is headed.

I feel so excited and full of hope. I still can't believe that this would go down in history as a major event in the history of this great country. I can say that I'm proud to have voted for him and I guess most of the country was ready to make a change and to move forward.

Thanks Des and everyone for the nice words. Just as our Presidient elect said in his acceptance speech, we are not just a collection of blue and red states -- we are the united states. I'll back our new prez, my hope and prayer is that we can all unite behind Obama. He's going to need our prayers and support. It's comforting to know that there are others abroad that are hoping for the best for us too. Just another reason why I love the OB!
